Group Work

As I dislocated and fractured my ankle I was unable to attend university, therefore I was unable to complete this coursework as a group. However, I have completed this coursework to the best of my own ability. although it was difficult at the start Mr Bilal helped me by guiding me through this coursework and keeping in contact with me via email. The second hardest problem I had faced was getting into contact with my uncle who's shop I am doing my coursework on. So once I gained contact with my uncle and set a date for the interview then it was okay. I eventually completed the interview but it took a while as my uncle preferred to communicate in our native language tamil. Therefore, it took me a while as I had to make sure I was able to understand what he was saying then translate it into english. I managed to get through this and find a few problems which could be resolved. I eventually brainstormed the problems and picked the best 2 and picked out a few good solutions.

Lecture 8

From this lecture, I came to acknowledge that information technology and organisations both influence each other. I also had come across 'Mintzeberg's 5 types of Organizational Structure', which shows the difference is businesses from the small start-up businesses up to consulting firms.  I also learn't about three levels within the business: operational level, managerial level and executive level. This gave me the a better understanding of where people rank within a business and what their roles are within a business. Also I have learn't the term Freeconomics.

Lecture 7

From the lecture, I gained better knowledge on how to prepare and deliver presentations. The biggest point that I will always remember when making presentations in the future is that outlines are very important because in my opinion it holds the base for the presentation. I also learned about the 7 by 7 rule which I had never come across previous, this helps me as a presenter to keep the audience engaged. From the seminar, I learn't how to use scenario manager to prepare budgets on excel. Although I have had no prior experience using the scenario manager, I found it pretty easy to use as I have become more familiar with excel.

Lecture 6

From the lecture, I understood that cloud computing is when data is in a remote server not on a personal computer or local server. Also gained better knowledge of cloud computing characteristics. From the seminar, I learnt about the vector lookup function and how much easier it makes it to look up items without having to scroll through excel if there is a lot of data. Also,  I have had some extra practice on IFs which had improved my excel skills.

Lecture 5

From the lecture, I was able to understand that information systems security are precautions to keep the information systems safe from unauthorized access. The most common computer threat is alterations to information and unauthorized people. Computer viruses are mostly found in the forms: virus,worms and Trojans. Overall, from this lecture my understanding of information systems security has improved, as I've got a greater understanding of how threats and viruses work but how they can be stopped. From the seminar, I became more familiar with how to do IFs on excel as I was struggling to get the rating to say fantastic or not good enough. I had to refer to the Nested IFs Tutorials to find out how to do so. Then exercise 2 & 3 were easy,but exercise 4 was tough as I didn't separate it for the different sales per month.

Lecture 4

Business intelligence is the infrastructure and services used to gather and analyse the sources so the business makes better decisions. There are three types of data : hard data, soft data and big data. Business intelligence also helps when reacting to threats and opportunities. From the seminar, the case study questions were fairly easy. It helped me realise what a good advertising agent YouTube is, however with consumers able to share their thoughts and ask questions. The business should be careful with this as a series of bad reviews could lead to the business having a downfall in sales and etc. However, if I a bad comment was to be left its also important to attend it in a careful manner.

Lecture 3

From week 3, I learnt that the infrastructure system is important as it's infrastructure allows processing, storage and transmitting of data. The two software's used in the information systems are application software and system software. Computer networking is also key as its sharing of information and services is easily exchanged through cable or wirelessly. The key flaw with managing the information systems infrastructure is that the increasing pace of modern technology caused: software obsolescence; storage needs; energy consumption;demand fluctuations; space and facility requirements. I found the seminar easy as I have prepared many cashflows before I'm the past what studying accounting.
